Community Relations
OAM has found from experience across a variety of countries, cultures and resource sector operations, that clients who have interaction with local communities, particularly in the oil and gas and mining industries, should include Community Relations as part of their overall security risk management strategy.
The local community is invariably impacted upon by the operations of the client and conversely, the client will be impacted upon by the attitude of the local community and associated interest groups. A Community Relations operation that is integrated into the overall security risk management strategy and is managed judiciously will allow the client to positively shape the attitude of the local community.
Key elements of an integrated Security and Community Relations approach are;
- Accurate information gathering.
- Management of local community expectations.
- Engagement with key local stakeholders.
- Provision of early warning of community unrest.
- Effective employment of Community Relations funding to maximise the willing support of the local community.
OAM will deploy a security risk management professional with strong cultural awareness and community relations experience to ensure that the community relations function is effectively integrated into the overall security risk management strategy while meeting the clients’ social responsibility intentions.
